IceHogs Thursday: Pointless End to Week 23

Week 23 of the AHL schedule did not end well for the IceHogs as they took on the Milwaukee Admirals in a home-and-home set of games.

icehogs-at-milwaukee-admirals-logosFriday, March 7 at Milwaukee – The IceHogs were not able to get off to a very good start on Friday night in Milwaukee. The Admirals got goals from Colton Sissons in the first period and Vinny Saponari, Miikka Salomaki and Sissons again in the second period to jump out to a 4-0 lead.

Garret Ross tallied his 14th goal of the season during the sandwich stanza to get the IceHogs on the board. Just over four minutes later, Mathieu Tousignant restored the four goal lead for Milwaukee.

In the third period, Calle Jarnkrok scored before the minute mark of the period to make it 6-1 Ads. Brandon Mashinter tallied his 11th goal of the season at 3:29, but the Ads answered back at 15:12 with Jarnkrok’s second marker of the game. Brian Connelly scored just over two minutes later, but the Ads sealed the game with a goal from Tousignant with 21 seconds remaining in regulation to win 8-3.

-Milwaukee outshot Rockford 35-25.

-Kent Simpson was in net for the IceHogs.

-The IceHogs went 3-for-7 on the power play and the Admirals went 4-for-7 on the man advantage.

-IceHogs defenseman Brian Connelly led the team with four shots on goal.

- The three stars of the game were:  1 — Calle Jarnkrok (2 G, +1, 3 SOG) 2 — Mathieu Tousignant (2 G, 1 A, +3, 5 SOG, 6 PIMs) 3 — Colton Sissons (2 G, 3 SOG).

-The Rockford scratches were:  Viktor Svedberg (injured), Philippe Lefebvre, Mathieu Brisebois, Wade Brookbank and Brett Skinner (all healthy).

icehogs-vs-milwaukee-admirals-logos1Saturday, March 8 vs. Milwaukee – The IceHogs then hosted the Admirals the following night at the BMO Harris Bank Center. The teams traded goals in the first period as Colton Sissons got on the board first for Milwaukee, but Pierre-Marc Bouchard followed him up with his seventh goal of the season to tie the game at one.

Filip Forsberg got the visitors back on top of the scoreboard at 1:27 of the second period, but Terry Broadhurst was able to tie the game up at two at 11:16 with his 15th goal of the season.

Milwaukee broke away after Broadhurst’s tally. Miikka Salomaki and Calle Jarnkrok tallied before the period was over and Sissons and Joonas Rask tallied in the third period to give Milwaukee a 6-2 win.

-Milwaukee outshot Rockford 33-30.

-Jason LaBarbera was in net for the IceHogs.

-The IceHogs didn’t tally on any of their four power plays while the Admirals went 1-for-3 on the man advantage.

-IceHogs defensemen Brian Connelly, Klas Dahlbeck and Brett Skinner and IceHogs forwards Terry Broadhurst and Jeremy Morin led the team with three shots on goal each.

-One of the IceHogs’ power play units was:

-Some of the IceHogs’ penalty killing units were:  Phillip Danault, Garret Ross, Brian Connelly and Bobby Shea; Brad Mills, Joakim Nordstrom, Klas Dahlbeck and Jared Nightingale; Terry Broadhurst, Mark McNeill, Brian Connelly and Bobby Shea; Jeremy Morin, Joakim Nordstrom, Klas Dahlbeck and Jared Nightingale.

-Wade Brookbank joined the coaching staff behind the IceHogs’ bench for the third period on Saturday evening.

- The three stars of the game were:  1 — Colton Sissons (2 G, +2, 3 SOG) 2 — Calle Jarnkrok (1 G, 1 A, +1, 5 SOG) 3 – Pierre-Marc Bouchard (1 G, -1, 2 SOG).

-The Rockford scratches were:  Viktor Svedberg (injured), Mathieu Brisebois, Wade Brookbank, Philippe Lefebvre and Theo Peckham (all healthy).

-The Rockford lines and D pairs were:

-The IceHogs are in seventh place in the Western Conference standings with a record of 30-24-5-3 (68 points).
